Safety

22 April 2023 – Today, Sappi joins the world in celebrating Mother Earth Day and in reflecting on our investment in nature.
Climate change has exacerbated the potential for forest fires. At Sappi, we practise sustainable forestry with fire risk management systems in place to ensure forestlands remain forested in South Africa and everywhere we operate.
Supporting the health and wellbeing of Sappi people and the communities where we operate is a top priority for our company.
During this challenging time, many businesses are faced with unprecedented changes to their operations. At Sappi North America, our employees’ health and safety remain our top priority. We have worked hard to update our internal and external procedures so we can continue to provide the essential products our customers need.
Supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our people is the cornerstone of our business.
Our goal is to be a great place to work where all people are inspired in their role and empowered to grow to their full potential in a safe and healthy environment. If you ask union leaders working with our Cloquet Mill in Minnesota, they would say Sappi is delivering on this promise.
Supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our people is the cornerstone of our business.  We don’t accept that injuries and accidents are inevitable and remain committed to Project Zero, our Groupwide safety initiative.
Congratulations to Stockstadt Mill, which has received its fourth Gold Safety Award. In 2019, the mill achieved one million man-hours worked without a reportable accident!
Using storytelling to improve safety
Sappi Forests owns and leases approximately 390,000 hectares of plantations and outsources planting, harvesting and other operations to contractors.
Learning a different set of skills
Pattern-cutting and sewing are not skills generally associated with fitters, millwrights and instrument technicians. However, one of the key things COVID-19 has taught us is the importance of flexibility.
