President and CEO
Mark Gardner was named President and CEO of Sappi North America in 2007 and is responsible for leading all Sappi operations in the region. A Sappi employee since 1981, Mr. Gardner worked in a variety of production management roles, including Managing Director at the Muskegon Mill and Director of Engineering and Manufacturing Technology before serving as the Vice President of Supply Chain and then Vice President of Manufacturing. In September 2012, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the University of Maine System and was recently the Chairman of the American Forestry and Paper Association. Mr. Gardner has a BS in Industrial Technology from the University of Southern Maine.
Vice President, Corporate Development and Dissolving Wood Pulp
Anne Ayer was named Vice President, Corporate Development and Dissolving Wood Pulp in 2018. In addition to managing the dissolving pulp business for North America, and leading strategic and corporate development initiatives, she is responsible for Logistics and Operations Planning. Ms. Ayer joined Sappi in 1996 and has served in a variety of roles, including Vice President, Fiber Resources and Corporate Development and Chief Information Officer. Prior to Sappi, Ms. Ayer worked as a consultant at the Monitor Company, a strategic consulting firm. She has an MBA from Stanford University and a BA in Psychology from Harvard.
Vice President, Procurement
Bob Bertolami became Vice President, Procurement in 2018 and is responsible for leading North America’s Pulp, Wood and Central Procurement initiatives. He joined Sappi in 2002, assuming roles with increasing responsibility in Central Procurement. Prior to his career at Sappi, Mr. Bertolami served in leadership roles in procurement and manufacturing at Polaroid Corporation, including several plant director positions. Mr. Bertolami has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University and a M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Vice President, Graphics Sales & Business Development
Bob Forsberg became the Vice President, Graphics Sales & Business Development in 2005. In addition to his current duties, he has assumed responsibility for Inside Sales for the Graphics, Packaging, and Specialties businesses. Mr. Forsberg began his career as a Sales Representative with Sappi in 1985 and has served in a variety of positions in Coated Sales and Marketing, including Regional Sales Manager, Atlanta, Category Director, Utility Brands and Catalog Segment and Regional Sales Manager, Mid-Atlantic. Mr. Forsberg has a BA in Economics and Art History from Bowdoin College and is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advance Management Program.
Vice President, Packaging and Specialties Business
Deece Hannigan was named Vice President, Packaging and Specialties Business in May 2017. Mr. Hannigan’s responsibilities include leading the Packaging and Release business units together with Supply Chain and Inside Sales. Mr. Hannigan began his career with Sappi as a sales representative in 1988. He has since served in a variety of leadership positions in Coated Sales, Specialties, Marketing, and Manufacturing. Most recently, he was the Vice President of Coated Paper and Packaging. Mr. Hannigan is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a BA in Political Science.
Vice President, Manufacturing
Mike Haws was named Vice President, Manufacturing in 2015. His responsibilities include accountability for the Somerset, Cloquet and Allentown operations together with the Research and Development facility. Mr. Haws joined Sappi in 2012 as Managing Director of the Somerset mill. Prior to Sappi, he held a variety of operational roles with Verso Paper, International Paper and Champion International. Mr. Haws has over 30 years of experience in the paper industry and holds a BS in Paper Science and Engineering from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Annette Luchene was named Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 2004. She is accountable for all finance, treasury and accounting functions, in addition to leading the Information Technology and Lean Six Sigma organizations. Ms. Luchene joined Sappi in 1996 as Director of Management Accounting and then Director of Finance. Prior to her time at Sappi, she spent ten years with Packaging Corporation of America, a division of Tenneco and Ply Gem Industries, where she worked in various accounting and finance positions. Ms. Luchene has an MBA from Loyola University of Chicago and a BS in Accounting from Northern Illinois University.
Vice President, Human Resources and General Counsel
Sarah Manchester was named Vice President, Human Resources and General Counsel of Sappi Fine Paper North America in 2006. She is responsible for leading the human resources and legal functions as well as government affairs and corporate communications. Since joining Sappi in 1997, Ms. Manchester has held a variety of roles, including Assistant General Counsel and Vice President and General Counsel. Prior to her time at Sappi, Sarah was an associate at the global law firm, Ropes & Gray. She has a BA in History from Dartmouth College and a JD from Cornell Law School.
Chief Business Sustainability Officer
Jennifer Miller was named Chief Business Sustainability Officer in 2015 and is responsible for identifying growth opportunities through expansions into current and adjacent businesses as well as her sustainability leadership. Ms. Miller joined Sappi in 1996 as Vice President and General Counsel and since that time, has held several leadership positions, most recently as Executive Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Communications. Before joining Sappi, she served as Vice President of Rates and General Counsel for Boston Gas. She has a BA in Economics from the University of Washington and a JD from Cornell Law School.
Vice President, Coated Business
Rick Skoglund was named Vice President, Coated Business in May 2017. Mr. Skoglund is accountable for the growth and profitability of the Coated Graphics business. He joined Sappi in 2015 after holding a number of marketing and brand management roles with increasing responsibility at several companies, including Welch’s and High Liner Foods. At Sappi, Mr. Skoglund has served as Senior Brand Manager, responsible for the import graphics business and most recently, Director Sheets, with responsibility for the graphics sheet business. He has a BS from Union College, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.
