Information and consultation agreement Nijmegen Mill

Brussels, 21 October 2013

Sappi Netherlands B.V., Sappi Nijmegen B.V., the central works council of Sappi Netherlands and the works council of Sappi Nijmegen enter into an information and consultation agreement

Further to the announcement of 30 September 2013 giving notice of the start of consultations regarding the future of the Nijmegen mill  the above-mentioned parties entered into an information and consultation agreement on 21 October 2013.

The agreement aims to set out the arrangements made between Sappi Netherlands and an advisory body comprising representatives of the parties, who will be exploring alternatives for the mill in Nijmegen over the next few months.

This advisory body will consist of the two independent members of the board of Sappi Netherlands, one of whom will act as the chair, one representative from the management team at Sappi Nijmegen and two representatives of the works councils. Although there is no trade union representative on this advisory body, the trade unions FNV Bondgenoten, De Unie and CNV Vakmensen have pledged their support for the initiative to look for alternatives together.

The advisory body has an evaluative role, with the right of initiative to explore possible alternatives. It may also actively approach parties and put them in touch with Sappi Netherlands.

The sale to or takeover by a third party that is not prepared to disengage from activities in the area of coated fine paper will not be considered as being an alternative for the Nijmegen mill .
