Closing the gender gap at Carmignano Mill in Italy

Sappi is on a journey towards greater diversity and inclusion, cultivating a culture where all people - especially women - can realise their potential. Carmignano Mill just outside of Venice is helping to show the way.

While women have traditionally been underrepresented in our industry, Carmignano Mill is working to close this gender gap.

In 2020, women comprised 60% of new hires in ‘white collar’ roles spanning from innovation and process engineering to supply chain and customer service. Encouraging more women to pursue careers at Sappi and empowering their rise in the company is a key objective for Paolo Santambrogio, the Mill’s Human Resources Manager. With PQM Manager, Barbara Busnardo, joining the management team this year, Carmignano mill is on the right track.

Pictured above and quoted below are just some of the women who have proudly joined the mill in recent years. Each in their own way, they are encouraging more women to follow in their footsteps in 2021 and beyond.
