Sappi’s Lanaken mill in Belgium has recently undergone a two month long rebuild on its PM8. As of June, 12th 2019 the PM now has the ability to produce woodfree coated paper in addition to light weight coated paper. After a scheduled ramp-up and optimization this widened product capacity will provide excellent flexibility. Sappi will use this flexibility to meet the market demands.

Commenting on the result, Sappi Limited Chief Executive Officer Steve Binnie said: “The business continued to be supported by the investments made in recent years to diversify the product portfolio with packaging and specialities sales volumes for the group up 18% and dissolving pulp (DP) increasing by 16% year-on-year.”

In 2019, Sappi was selected for an Avery Dennison Supplier Distinction Award for the second consecutive year. In doing so, the awarding authority honoured the paper manufacturer’s sustainable conduct, its high-quality products and being a real global supplier. While its group headquarters is in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sappi’s global packaging and speciality papers business supports eight Avery Dennison plants worldwide with numerous products from multiple facilities.

In mid-April, Sappi is launching its new Atelier paperboard, developed under the motto “brilliance meets function”. The special feature of the new GC1 board lies in its unrivalled combination of visual and physical features. Atelier combines a large specific volume with a high stiffness, as well as a high surface quality with a unique 100-percent brightness. The folding boxboard GC1 is offered in grammages ranging from 240 to 350 g/m2.
