Every year, the three paper machines produce 750,000 tons per annum of high-quality Galerie papers (coated mechanical paper) which are tailored to high-quality publishing and advertising end uses as well as 300,000 tons per annum of bleached mechanical pulp for its own consumption. Over 90% of the Kirkniemi Mill production is exported.

Sustainable development and environmental responsibility go hand in hand with efficient production. Our products are recyclable and our main raw material, renewable wood, is grown in sustainably managed forests.
We enhance our processes continuously, ensuring that we get the very best performance, quality and sustainability by minimising energy consumption, raw material usage and ultimately the total amount of waste. The mills’s impact is minimised by using the best available techniques (BAT) and adhering to strict sustainable operating methods.
Through the EMAS statement, we regularly share information about the development of environmental affairs at our mill. Certified wood chain of custody management systems and the EU Ecolabel, granted to our mill’s products, help our customers make responsible choices.
The safety of our employees, partners, visitors and our neighbourhood is vitally important to us. The focus of continuous safety improvement is in safety behaviour and in building a lasting safety culture. Our objective is zero accidents.
In addition to our own staff, we require all of our partners working at our facilities to adhere to Sappi Kirkniemi Mill's safety regulations and principles.
Today, every task requires analysis, problem identification and new ideas that lead to the planning and application of corrective actions. Continuous improvement is a part of everyday work at the Sappi Kirkniemi Mill, requiring the contribution of the entire staff.
