Making whilst caring

'Heart' is at the centre of it all. Our owned and leased plantations are not only strictly managed under sustainable forestry management practices but are all fully certified under international forestry management schemes such as FSC™, SFI and PEFC.

Membership commitments.

Sustainable Apparel Coalition

With our membership in Cascale (previously know as the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), we join more than 240 global brands, retailers, and manufacturers, as well as government, non-profit environmental organisations, and academic institutions, which are collectively committed to improving supply chain sustainability in the apparel, footwear, and textile industry. Sappi has completed the Higg FEM self assessment for our Cloquet Mill. Learn More.

Textile Exchange

Sappi is a member of Textile Exchange. Founded as Organic Exchange in 2002, Textile Exchange is a global non-profit organisation that works closely with all sectors of the textile supply network. Textile Exchange identifies and shares best practices regarding farming, materials, processing, traceability and product end of life to create positive impacts on water, soil, air, animals and the human population created around the world by the textile industry. Members include 210 companies and organisations from more than 25 countries.

Sustainable forestry management practices.

Timber sourced outside of our own plantations is rigorously assessed through stringent policies to ensure the wood is supplied and is not derived from ancient or endangered forests and is grown and harvested in a sustainable manner. These include sourcing certified timber under FSC, SFI and PEFC.

Helping whilst creating.

Verve supports enterprise development projects such as the African Honey Bee Project and protecting biodiversity and natural habitat of the rare Karkloof Blue Butterfly. Our conscience is inherent in our water reclamation, energy usage and waste reduction policies dedicated to constantly improving sustainability and lowering our carbon footprint wherever we operate. Although Sappi owns or leases over 470,000 hectares, approximately 27.4m tons of standing timber worldwide, as much as 140,000 hectares is set aside and maintained by Sappi Forests to conserve the natural habitat and biodiversity indigenous to these areas. It's not enough to say we care. We're committed to proving it.
