‘Sinekeza abantu amathuba okuphumelela’ translates to ‘Giving people opportunities to succeed’. And it’s the motto of Sappi Skills Centres in South Africa that reflects our commitment to seed and grow human potential everywhere we operate.
South Africa has a critical need for technical and artisan skills that our Skills Centres are directly helping to fulfil together with a growing number of partners. At Ngodwana and Saiccor Mills, Centres offer a combination of technical online training and specialised classrooms outfitted for work in our mills.
Thanks to our partnership with the Southern African Institute of Welding, trainees can now access an accredited welding course at Saiccor Mill. They can also now access full apprentice and trade test accreditation at the Ngodwana Skills Centre.
By contributing to technical competency levels in South Africa, we’re unlocking value for our staff and our communities in line with our Thrive25 commitment. We’re also ensuring a pipeline of skills that meets our needs while creating positive social impact and contributing to the well-being of our communities.
