Our mill

Kirkniemi Mill has been a front runner in developing light-weight publication papers for demanding end-uses. Today the mill’s three paper machines produce coated papers for heat set web offset printing to customers around the world. The mill has a well-known track record in product innovations in cooperation with customers as well as machinery and raw material suppliers.
 
Kirkniemi Mill has always had a keen focus on environmental matters in its daily operations. The mill uses locally harvested wood from sustainably managed forests.
 
The mill is located 70km west of Helsinki in southern Finland..

Our products

Galerie papers produced in Kirkniemi are first class coated publication papers for heatset web offset printing. They are tailored to high quality publishing and advertising end uses. Galerie papers are available in a wide range of basis weights and offer a yield advantage.
 
Galerie Lite is the solution for high circulation and high pagination publications. It offers good printability and runnability combined with yield advantage with light to ultra-light basis weights.
 
Galerie Brite provides excellent print quality combined with high opacity in medium basis weights. Galerie Brite is the natural choice for any magazine or catalogue.
 
Galerie Fine is the premium solution to meet the highest quality demands. This fine paper with high gloss is preferred by magazines that want to excel in class and style.
 
Galerie Fine Silk is the benchmark when it comes to superb reproduction of stylish images in a silk finish. Its smooth silky surface combined with superb details and high print gloss create life like image reproduction..

  • New winder installed to PM1​.

  • PM3 start-up with product Galerie Fine - an innovation of aspen-based paper.
  • Launch of Galerie Lite (former FCO) with continuous development towards lower grammages.​

  • Rebuild of PM1; launch of FCO (film coated paper)​.

  • ​Introduction of Galerie Brite (PM2) - the first high-brightness LWC-paper in the world

  • ​Completely new PM1 starts production; WSOP, the first web-sized offset paper.

  • ​PM2 start-up; the first European large-scale production unit of light-weight coated (LWC) papers.
​1968
  • ​Rebuild of PM1; supercalendered rotogravure paper (SC gravure).

  • ​Mill is established.

The key factors contributing to good environmental performance at Kirkniemi Mill include professional skills and the right attitude of the staff, making use of the best available technology and continuous development of the mill’s operating practices.
 
The mill operates under systematic, goal oriented management systems consisting of certified Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), Energy Management System (ISO 50001), Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001), Quality Management System (ISO 9001) and Chain Of Custody Verification from the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) scheme and Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®).
 
We improve our environmental performance continuously by developing products, processes and working methods to meet our environmental permit obligations, while using the best available technology.
