Electrical Engineering
As an electrical engineering apprentice, you will install and maintain electrical systems. You will also commission process-related equipment. Your training will enable you to identify and troubleshoot electrical faults and malfunctions, ensuring that systems are restored to full operation.

Metal Technology
As a metal technology apprentice, you will fabricate workpieces and machine parts. You will work with welding, turning, and milling machines. Your main responsibilities will include putting equipment into operation, repairing, and maintaining it.

• Teamwork and the ability to work self-sufficiently
Paper Technology
With high-tech equipment to produce paper sheets: As a paper technology apprentice, your areas of work include pulp production and paper manufacturing. You will operate and monitor modern process control stations – and if there are malfunctions or paper defects, you will investigate and resolve the issue.

Practical days
As part of the practical days for 8th and 9th grade students, you have the opportunity to gain more insights into our apprenticeships and training center at Sappi Gratkorn.
You can participate in practical days with us from October to the end of May. Practical days are also possible during the semester break in February, for example, for AHS or HTL pupils.

Working hours
On Monday and Tuesday, you work from 6:30 AM to 2:15 PM, and from Wednesday to Friday, from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
After turning 18, you will undergo training in shift work/production (Paper Technology) or gain experience in shift work (Metal Technology and Electrical Engineering)

The easiest way for interested young people to apply is online.
When submitting an application, it’s important to upload at least a short résumé. The résumé should include contact details and an overview of your education so far (schooling, apprenticeships). We’re also happy to learn about your hobbies and any additional skills you may have.
The application deadline for all apprenticeships is the end of April. If not all positions have been filled by then, the application period will be extended accordingly.

Young people who are interested in an apprenticeship at Gratkorn mill need to have completed at least compulsory education. The candidate should be interested in technical matters and be skillful. The candidate should have the right personality to work in a team as well a solid general knowledge. We are looking forward to receiving your application.
Young people interested in exploring different professions are welcome to complete practical training days at our training center. It’s an easy and hands-on way to discover which apprenticeship best suits your interests and skills.

All our apprenticeships start on September 1st
On Monday and Tuesday, working ours for our apprentices are from 6:30 AM to 2:15 PM, and from Wednesday to Friday, from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM. After turning 18, apprentices will undergo training in shift work/production (Paper Technology) or gain experience in shift work (Metal Technology and Electrical Engineering), with morning shifts from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, afternoon shifts from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and night shifts from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Work clothing such as T-shirts, trousers, sweatshirts and jackets are provided by Sappi. This also includes safety shoes and other safety equipment.
Our trainers are looking forward to successfully training our apprentices as skilled workers.
We offer three different apprenticeships: Paper Technology, Electrical Engineering, and Metal Technology.
Sappi Gratkorn offers direct access to the cycling path at the Mur river. A bus stop is located directly in front of the main entrance, and Gratwein-Gratkorn train station is approximately a 15-minute walk away. Ample parking is available for both employees and visitors.
The vocational school for electrical engineering is located in 8552 Eibiswald, Styria.
The vocational school for metal technology is located in 8010 Graz St. Peter, Styria.
The vocational school for paper technology is located in 4810 Gmunden, Upper Austria.
We have a job guarantee for all our apprentices. The qualified apprentice will thus be employed as a skilled worker at Gratkorn mill, continuing in specialised areas.
Yes, we support our apprentices who would like to complete their high school diploma (Matura) in parallel, specifically by offering flexible working hours and granting time off for taking exams.
In addition to the standard apprenticeship, we offer opportunities for additional qualifications, such as:
