SaveTFP is a group of MIT students who want to ensure that other students are able to exercise personal choice and responsibility in the way they use alcohol, by making them aware of alternative low (or no) alcohol events.
An important part of the process was to make first year students aware of a high profile lobby for alternatives to excessive alcohol use and to do that it was first important to establish the saveTFP name on campus as a student organization that helps students get more out of MIT life.
Executed in an informal, accessible style, the campaign consisted of posters in the “infinite corridor”, the main traffic are on campus, events held or co-sponsored by saveTFP, e-Mail messages, “conquer MIT” tips as well as a website design.
Evaluation has shown dramatic success, with awareness of saveTFP soaring from 42% in 2003 to around 80% in 2004. Amongst high risk first year students alone, awareness has gone from 13% to more than 47% over the same period, laying a foundation for more focused alcohol related content in the future.
