Sappi's ongoing role in the dye sublimation market
Dye sublimation has been a central component of our specialty paper business for years with the brands Transjet and Basejet. The process uses heat and pressure to transfer designs onto polyester fabrics and coated substrates, and it's become essential in use cases like soft signage, sportswear, fashion, and home textiles.
The expectations in this market are straightforward. Customers demand consistent quality, reliable supply, fast turnaround. We've worked hard to meet those standards, and we're not stepping back. Our Dye Sublimation papers produced in Carmignano and Condino remain at the core of what we offer, and we'll keep developing and supporting them going forward.
Everything we do in dye sublimation runs mainly through our mill in Carmignano. It's where product development, technical service, converting, and logistics all come together. Having it all under one roof keeps coordination tight and decision-making quick.
Over time, Carmignano has evolved into more than a production site. Customers come to us for support on applications, print performance, logistics – questions that go beyond the paper itself. We've built the team and the infrastructure to handle that.
A major step forward in service and flexibility
Over the last three years, we made significant investments at Carmignano, with the goal of building a fully integrated, highly automated system that lets us serve the dye sublimation market better, faster, and with more flexibility.
The investments include an expanded warehouse, new converting capacity, and a fully automated packaging line. Together, they give us a complete in-house solution, from paper production through to converting and shipment. We handle everything from large mother reels to plotter rolls and mini jumbos, all packed with the care they need.
For our customers, that translates to shorter lead times and faster response when demand shifts. It also opens up better options for smaller reel sizes, where speed and handling make a real difference.
With this setup in place, we can offer a full range of dye sublimation papers in different widths and formats, all from one source. That reduces complexity on your end and helps us maintain consistent quality across every order.
The system is running now. Internal feedback has been strong, and early customer responses confirm we're headed in the right direction. The added flexibility and improved service level are resonating.
