Due to a new regulation it was our goal to reduce NOx emissions of boiler 6 from 335 – 400 mg/Nm3 to below 325 mg/Nm3. Within a CI project the combustion of thick liquor was modified in our Utilities department. An altered fuel injector with an asymmetrical combustion gradation had the best results. These modified fuel injectors secure an improvement of the temperature profile within the combustion chamber and reduce the formation of thermal NOx.
With our self-developed new fuel injectors we are sure to meet the new limit values at every load range of combustion. Furthermore, we were able to avoid further investments in flue gas purification plants. On average, we were able to decrease NOx emissions by 10 to 12 %.
