Because making our energy use more effective is not only good for the environment but also reduces one of the main cost drivers for our mill.
We have been focusing on our mill’s energy consumption for many years now. This experience allowed us to have a new look at energy management and decided to look into ISO 50001. This certification is a standard that helps us to continually reduce our energy use, and therefore our energy costs and our greenhouse gas emissions.
In the process of obtaining this certification we changed our way of looking at energy at our mill: We implemented reporting measures that make energy consumption transparent for everybody, involving all our employees. Our people are a key asset in this process as they are the eyes and ears of our organization and I am sure that there will be many improvements to come as this is just an important step in a long positive development.
