Dare to make a difference - 13 May 2011

Sappi Fine Paper Europe launches the 12th edition of the Ideas that Matter Graphic Competition and challenges you to project your passion through paper.

Sappi, the leading producer of coated fine paper has entered a second decade of its renowned and impactful design competition – Ideas that Matter – by giving entrants enhanced opportunities to submit their work throughout the year, and revamping the competition’s presence online. Unlike many other competitions, the emphasis is on the realisation of design projects, and bringing theory to life to generate awareness of well known, and less well known issues in the broad categories of Environment, Culture, Education, Healthcare, Human Rights and Society. The strong partnership approach between designers, non-profit organisations and Sappi that has been established over the last ten years of the initiative has proved to make a difference, helping people and doing our planet some good.

Do you want to make a difference and see your work have impact?

At the launch, Eric van den Bruel, Business Development & Marketing Director, Sappi Europe, said: “We really feel that the use of paper in communicating some of the challenges facing today’s society can be inspiring, moving people to act, and thereby creating and prompting change. We’re very proud that our initiative has succeeded in making an impact on society and look forward to supporting the initiative into the next decade and beyond. As Mervyn Kurlansky, previous judge of the competition said, ‘It’s gratifying to have been a witness to the inspiration work for social good.’ “

The competition is targeted at both design students (individuals or groups) and creative professionals who want to use their skills to make a difference. It is a great opportunity which puts the emphasis on translating theory into reality. Using paper means that a project becomes tangible, encouraging and facilitating designers at all levels to translate their passion into real projects. Online registration is necessary to participate in this year’s competition;
