Participating in the Maine Climate Council

By reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and scaling up nature-based solutions, we're increasingly part of the solution to climate change.

On June 26, 2019, the Governor of Maine and State Legislature created the Maine Climate Council, an assembly of scientists, industry leaders, bipartisan local and state officials, and engaged citizens to develop a four-year plan to put Maine on a trajectory to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030 and at least 80% by 2050. By Executive Order, the state must also achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.

Sappi is proud to have been selected to join the Council with other major industry representatives in Maine. Our Energy Manager, Ben Cracolici, for the Somerset Maine mill currently represents Sappi on the Council.

“I was pleased to learn that Ben was selected to be on the Council.” said Sandy Taft, Director of Sustainability SNA. “It’s important to have business representation on the Council. Ben brings the perspective of an energy intensive industry to the conversation that is also firmly committed to addressing climate change.”
