Stockstadt Mill received its 4th Gold Safety Award

Congratulations to Stockstadt Mill, which has received its fourth Gold Safety Award. In 2019, the mill achieved one million man-hours worked without a reportable accident!  

So, what is Stockstadt’s secret to effective accident prevention? In recent years, the mill has intensified its occupational safety efforts, with around 700 safety audits and inspections every year, and the mill employees take Sappi’s Global Safety Awareness Day very seriously.  

Every routine meeting at Stockstadt begins with the topic of occupational safety and continuous improvement measures apply to all areas of the mill. 

One particular success was a poster campaign called ‘Speak Up’ from 2016 to 2019, and more steps have been taken since. Every employee is now required to demonstrate four personal occupational safety measures, and this year each employee has been preparing at least one risk analysis per month to raise awareness of potential dangers.  

The simple message is that, when it comes to safety, every contribution counts!

Making heat eco-effective in Stockstadt Mill, Germany

For 10 years the wastewater had been running hot from the bleachery at our Stockstadt Pulp Mill in Bavaria, Germany. Where others just saw heat, however, Kai von Groddeck saw opportunity. As a mechanical engineer, he knew he could transform this wasted heat into a new energy source for the mill.
