Sappi ReFibre: following the principles of reduce, recover, re-use – and capacitate

Sappi ReFibre for a more circular world

Sappi ReFibre, Sappi Southern Africa’s secondary fibre division, sources used paper products from an extensive network of agents across the Southern African region as well as from waste producers. The recovered board and paper is used to supplement virgin fibre in the manufacturing of packaging paper grades at Tugela and Ngodwana Mills.

In order to promote transformation and small business development, under Sappi’s Enterprise and Supplier Development Programme, Sappi ReFibre provides suppliers with equipment and business support to several 100% black-owned recycling companies in South Africa. We have made a total capital investment of approximately ZAR10 million into these companies.

Shared value or win-win

  • Sappi ReFibre provides a market for suppliers who benefit economically.
  • In return, we have a steady supply of raw materials.
  • What’s more, recovering paper and board is environmentally sound, because it reduces the impact on landfill.
