Sappi Europe today announced the initiation of a consultation process at its Kirkniemi Mill in Finland as part of a proposed asset restructure. This step is being taken in response to a structural decline in demand across Europe and sustained financial challenges.

Sappi Southern Africa Limited (“Sappi”) is pleased to announce that the Competition Commission has approved the transaction in terms of which Normandien Farms (Pty) Limited (“Normandien”) will acquire the Lomati Sawmilling business (“Lomati”) from Sappi.

To support margin recovery, Sappi Europe will start implementing price increases initially USD 60-100/to, or equivalent, on all Woodfree Coated paper grades across its export markets for deliveries from 1. October 2025.

Commenting on the group’s results, Sappi Chief Executive Officer, Steve Binnie said: “The group faced a particularly challenging quarter, marked by ongoing global economic weakness and heightened uncertainty stemming from persistent trade and tariff tensions. Sales volumes were impacted by the ramp-up of the Somerset Mill PM2 project. As a consequence the group delivered Adjusted EBITDA of US$80 million.”
