Sappi Limited is pleased to announce that its three dissolving pulp (DP) production facilities namely Cloquet, Ngodwana and Saiccor Mills have completed the Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM) self-assessment via the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s (SAC) online portal.

Commenting on the result, Sappi Limited Chief Executive Officer, Steve Binnie said: “An initially strong start to the year was unfortunately offset by weak graphic paper markets and lower dissolving pulp (DP) prices driven by the ongoing trade wars and slower economic growth in various geographies."

Commenting on the result, Sappi Limited Chief Executive Officer, Steve Binnie said: “Although our third quarter is traditionally lower due to northern hemisphere summer holidays, the results for the quarter were under pressure. We faced challenging market conditions across all our major product categories."

Sappi’s Lanaken mill in Belgium has recently undergone a two month long rebuild on its PM8. As of June, 12th 2019 the PM now has the ability to produce woodfree coated paper in addition to light weight coated paper. After a scheduled ramp-up and optimization this widened product capacity will provide excellent flexibility. Sappi will use this flexibility to meet the market demands.

Commenting on the result, Sappi Limited Chief Executive Officer Steve Binnie said: “The business continued to be supported by the investments made in recent years to diversify the product portfolio with packaging and specialities sales volumes for the group up 18% and dissolving pulp (DP) increasing by 16% year-on-year.”
