Sappi North America is an active member of each of the organizations listed below. We support these partnerships financially as well as through in kind contributions. In many cases, Sappi employees assume leadership roles, serve on advisory boards and participate in various committees.

Agenda 2020

Agenda 2020 Technology Alliance

The Agenda 2020 Technology Alliance exists to identify high-priority, pre-competitive technology challenges for the pulp and paper industry and to promote scientific research and development projects to address them.  The Alliance has developed technology road maps for cellulose nanomaterials, the reuse of process effluents, next generation pulping and more.

AF&PA

The American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA)

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) serves to advance a sustainable U.S. pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and wood products manufacturing industry through fact-based public policy and marketplace advocacy. AF&PA member companies make products essential for everyday life from renewable and recyclable resources and are committed to continuous improvement through the industry’s sustainability initiative - Better Practices, Better Planet 2020.

FSC

Forest Stewardship Council

The Forest Stewardship Council is a non-profit entity that supports environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests. FSC independently tracks, traces and identifies wood fibers from the forest through every step of the procurement, manufacturing and printing process, confirming that each supplier in the chain follows rigorous controls, management and reporting practices.

SFI

Sustainable Forestry Initiative

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® program is based on the premise that responsible environmental behavior and sound business decisions can co-exist. SFI® program participants practice sustainable forestry on all lands they manage, and influence millions of additional acres through the training of loggers and foresters in best management practices and landowner outreach programs.

Sustainable Packaging Coalition

The Sustainable Packaging Coalition® (SPC) is an industry working group dedicated to a more robust environmental vision for packaging. Through strong member support, an informed and science-based approach, supply chain collaborations and continuous outreach, we endeavor to build packaging systems that encourage economic prosperity and a sustainable flow of materials.

TwoSides North America

Two Sides North America aims to help people gain a better understanding of why print and paper is a versatile and sustainable communications medium. The organization strives to be balanced, reflecting views which may not always be those of Two Sides and its members.

U. of Maine

University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation

The University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation was established in 1950 to provide support for the education and preparation of engineering graduates for challenging and rewarding careers in the pulp and paper industry and its suppliers. The Pulp & Paper Foundation currently supports up to 80 engineering and forestry students with merit based scholarships.
