Fire awareness

Sappi's fire awareness campaign in rural schools has been so successful as an education programme that it has been included in the syllabus in the Mpumalanga province.

Children in the rural areas are taught how to avoid fires and the danger of fires.

This sponsorship demonstrates Sappi’s commitment to the beach environment surrounding the Saiccor Mill. The funding has been used for the training of junior lifesavers (Nippers) as well as the Club’s participation in lifesaving competitions.
 
To date Sappi has donated over R500,000.

Business Against Crime (BAC)
Sappi is one of the original founder members of the BAC initiative.
 
In 2010, Sappi committed to a three-year agreement in support of the National Office of BAC.
The Ngodwana and Tugela Mills support their local BAC branch, which assists in uplifting the image at local police stations.

 

Past projects
Braamfontein rejuvenation
Sappi’s multi-million Rand investment in the regeneration of Braamfontein was many-fold. Not only did it entail the upgrade and modernisation of our two office buildings (our home for 17 years), including joining the two buildings together by way of a magnificent foyer and exhibition area, but also improved and expanded parking facilities and security.
 
The upgrade also involved creating a pedestrian piazza at the top of Simmonds and Ameshoff streets; a newly landscaped Civic Theatre Park and a new home and worldclass studios for the Johannesburg Ballet Theatre.
