Alfeld Mill

Our mill

The Alfeld Mill is located to the south of Hanover (Germany) and its origins date back to 1706. It produces coated fine and speciality paper products, which are mainly coated and have a variety of finishes.

With an integrated pulp plant using locally harvested wood it produces totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleached chemical pulp for own use. Two of the paper machines (PM1 and 2) make graphic papers and one-side coated SBS board (PM1), while three others produce speciality papers (PM3, 4 and 5). Two off-line coaters and numerous reel and sheet cutters form part of the extensive production installations. With five papermaking machines, the mill has a manufacturing flexibility which allows it to match customer’s needs. In contrast to graphic papers our speciality papers are produced on machines with a Yankee cylinder (one-side glazed) and in-line one-side coated (PM3 and 4).

Extensive local warehousing and stocks of standard size graphic coated paper allow rapid delivery to paper merchants. In Germany, a 24-hour service is operated. Efficiently managed stocks of reels can be cut to special sizes and delivered within two or three days.

Excellence of product and service, sophisticated logistics and a responsible attitude towards the environment all form part of the mill’s tradition.

This conversion is scheduled to commence at the end of our 2013 financial year and will result in a reduction of 150,000 tons per annum of coated woodfree production capacity and the addition of 135,000 tons of speciality packaging paper production in our 2014 financial year.
