Growing and developing leaders from within, has allowed Sappi to build a strong leadership culture.
Since more than 10 years, we run a unique management trainee programme. This 2-year programme focuses on young European graduates with exceptional talents, high entrepreneurial spirit and a strong passion to add value to the exciting world in which we operate. During said programme, the trainees will gain valuable work experience at different Sappi sites and in different functions, whilst receiving regular appropriate training to give their career at Sappi a jump start.
To support our strong leadership culture we have developed a set of leadership competencies that are key for each leader’s success. The key qualities and behaviours we nurture in our leaders are built around the following core leadership competencies: self awareness, operational delivery, leading others, commercial insight, driving change and strategic thinking.
Our leadership framework is based on the Leadership Pipeline Architecture® and sets out the development steps for leaders.
Each development or career step is supported by a variety of development and feedback tools (MBTI, 360 feedback,…) as well as leadership development programmes. One of these programmes is our Sappi Leadership Academy, a 12-month in-house programme designed for managers to develop their leadership behaviours. It consists of three one-week residential blocks as well as project work spread over the year.
