Welcome once again to Sappi Ideas that Matter, a celebration of ideas that are not only contrived to 'do well', but strive to 'do good'.

As a leading global producer of coated fine paper, Sappi believes in the poer of ideas to move people.  Every year since 1999, when we first launched the Sappi Ideas that Matter initiative, we have discovered that there are many people around the world who share our belief; designers who, guided by conscience and a desire to help others, have focused their talent on developing work that motivates others to create a  better world.

Every year, in each region, a selection panel comprising design industry luminaries is invited to consider the merits of their work, both from a design perspective and its potential power to generate a response from the public.

For those campaigns that stand up to te panel's scrutiny, the reward is a share of the US$1 million that Sappi makes available every year.  Grants vary in size depending on the scope of the campaigns, with the money being used to produce the campaigns as specified by the designers.

In this book you will find the creative work that was selected in 2006; proof that the desire and ability to move people is alive and well.

We hope that everyone who contributed this year will be moved to do so again next year.  We also hope that you, after reading these stories of adversity and triumph, will be moved to participate in Ideas that Matter next year, too.
